In 1991, a group of clergy and congregational volunteers established Families Moving Forward to serve homeless families, based on a national model of an interfaith hospitality network.
Each year, volunteers in our supporting congregations provide more than 15,000 person-hours of direct service to extremely low-income families. In addition, the congregations provide space and meals every year that are valued at approximately $190,000.
We have grown:
- From a group of about a dozen congregations to a multi-layered network of more than 40 very diverse faith communities.
- From a staff of just a few part-timers to six full-time professional staff and several part-timers.
- From a pure emergency service to a multi-faceted shelter, housing, resources and advocacy organization.
We expect to continue to grow and change as we face new challenges. Our core mission will never change, however -- we are about children, we are about safe and affordable family housing, we are about pulling the community together to affect important change.
